Pinkerton Academy student arrested in Texas for being drunk and disorderly
A Texas student was arrested on suspicion of drunken and disorderly conduct after police said he punched another student who was trying to take a selfie with him on Instagram.
Pinkerton High School senior Adam B. Wray, 21, was arrested Wednesday afternoon after police were called to the school, according to a police report.
Police say they found Wray with a blood alcohol level of 0.21, nearly twice the legal limit of 0% in Texas.
The incident began when Wray’s cellphone went off at about 1 p.m. local time and he pulled out his phone and took a selfie.
Waysward, the report says, got into a fight with a classmate, who hit Wray in the face with a baseball bat.
He was then taken to the hospital with cuts and bruises on his face and back.
Wrays arrest comes amid a national debate about how the age of consent should be.
At the beginning of the school year, the age was raised from 16 to 18 and the use of social media and the internet is prohibited.
WRAY was charged with felony battery, disorderly conduct and a criminal trespass.
He is scheduled to appear in court Thursday.
A spokesman for the Texas Department of Public Safety said it is too early to comment on the case.
In the meantime, police are urging students to stay off social media until the investigation is complete.
